PhraseMine vs. RedNudge
RedNudge scores the Reddit posts that show up tomorrow. PhraseMine reads the threads your audience wrote years ago. Both live on Reddit. They do opposite jobs.

Understanding RedNudge
RedNudge Is Built To Catch Mentions, Not To Research Language
RedNudge is a Reddit keyword monitor with an AI layer on top. You give it keywords, it scans Reddit every 30 minutes, and it emails you a digest of the posts that matched. You can send the same digest to Slack with a one-click connect.
The AI part is the interesting bit. Claude scores every match from one to 10 for relevance, so you can skim the 8s, 9s and 10s and ignore the rest. RedNudge also tags each post by intent: Buy Intent, Recommendation, Complaint or Question. It tracks sentiment, drafts reply guidance in an opportunity inbox, and learns from the matches you dismiss.
For the money, that is a lot. Starter costs $7 a month for five keywords and 300 scored matches. Pro costs $15 a month for 15 keywords and 1,000 matches. The trial runs seven days with no card. If you want to know when Reddit talks about your product, RedNudge is one of the cheapest honest ways to find out.
But notice where all of that points. RedNudge reports on posts that appear after you set the keyword up. Quiet week on your keyword? Empty digest. The archive of Reddit threads sitting behind you stays untouched.
There is a harder problem underneath the timing one. RedNudge gives you five keywords on Starter, 15 on Pro. To fill those slots, you have to already know the words. Copywriters do not know the words yet. Working out what people actually say IS the research.
Nobody posts "CRM for small agencies." They post "I have three spreadsheets and I still lost a lead this month." You would never set a keyword for that sentence, and it is the sentence you want in your headline.
One more gap matters if you write copy. RedNudge matches and scores posts. On Reddit, the best customer language usually sits 40 comments deep, in a reply nobody upvoted, where somebody describes their problem in a way no marketer would ever write. A post-level match does not reach it.
The PhraseMine difference
PhraseMine Reads the Conversations That Already Happened
PhraseMine starts from the opposite end. You describe your product, your audience, and the pain you are writing about. You supply no keywords at all. PhraseMine's AI builds the search strategy, which is the exact part you were guessing at.
It runs a broad search first, 15 to 25 queries across Reddit. Then a focused search of five to 10 queries that drills into whatever produced the best material. Then three to five edge cases for the niche and contrarian angles nobody thinks to check. PhraseMine then analyzes the conversations it found, comments included, not just the post titles.
You do not get a digest. You get themes: named patterns like "tried it and quit" or "scared of looking stupid" with the real quotes sitting underneath each one.
Every excerpt carries two tags. One is awareness stage, using Eugene Schwartz's five stages, so you know whether a line belongs in a cold ad or on a comparison page. The other is a research tag: Pain, Dream, Obstacle, Trigger, Identity or Objection. When your FAQ section needs three objections, you filter for objections and read them.
Put the two tagging systems side by side. RedNudge tells you a post shows Buy Intent, which is a signal for a sales rep. PhraseMine tells you a quote is an Objection from someone at the problem aware stage, which is an instruction for a writer.
PhraseMine also builds voice profiles: a writing-voice reference pulled from the themes in your session. Hand it to another writer, use it to guide an AI drafting tool, or check your own draft against how the audience really talks. And it produces a saturation report that tells you when you have enough material and where the gaps still sit. A digest arrives forever. Research should finish.
Old sessions stay searchable, so the fifth brief you write for a client builds on the four before it.
Side-by-side comparison

Different jobs
When To Reach for Each One
RedNudge Is Right When
- You want to know the moment Reddit mentions your product
- You are hunting buying signals to reply to
- You want competitor complaints landing in Slack
- You already know the keywords worth watching
- Your budget for monitoring is under $20 a month
PhraseMine Is Right When
- You have a sales page due and no real customer language yet
- You do not know which words your audience uses
- You want pains, dreams and objections sorted for you
- You need quotes tagged by awareness stage
- You want to know when your research is actually finished
These two overlap on one thing only: Reddit. RedNudge watches for what people post next so you can respond. PhraseMine digs through what people already posted so you can write. At $7 a month RedNudge is a fair price for a monitoring habit, and nobody should talk you out of it. But if your deadline is Friday, a digest cannot help you. You need the archive read, sorted and tagged before then. Running both is a reasonable setup, and plenty of writers do exactly that.
Stop Watching the Feed. Go Read the Archive.
PhraseMine analyzes the Reddit conversations your audience already had and hands you their actual words, grouped into themes and tagged by awareness stage. Start a session and see what they have been saying all along.
